Lucinda Hawkins, a southern born woman from Alabama, moved to California with her family at the young age of4 years old By the time she was in high school, Lucinda knew she had a passion for children and education When It was time to attend college she gravitated towards nursing and began taking classes at California University of nursing Her goal was to put herself through school and eventually become a teacher. In 1991 she received her associate’s degree in Early Education and a minor associate’s degree in English After achieving these two degrees, Lucinda decided to leave nursing school to focus on her true passion of educating young children. In 1993, Lucinda began working as an infant care professional at a local church near her home. It was here that everything would fall into place The church had a policy that even/ Friday due to maintenance, it would close its doors, leaving many in—need parents with no options for childcare. lt pained Lucinda to see children and families struggling to adapt to the church's policy, and she would often dread having to turn parents away at the end of each week After witnessing this happen for a few weeks, she had finally had enough: she was going to find a solution that would benefit everyone, most importantly the children on a Thursday afternoon. As parents began to shuffle in to pick up their little ones, they were informed the church would close down. To all who were Interested She declared that beginning the following Monday, she would be offering childcare to all who needed it out of her townhome in Bellflower Thrilled to finally have a safe and stable place to educate the children, a fellow teacher and a staffing director from the church followed Lucinda's lead and joined her start-up business Together, the three of them turned her garage into a child—friendly daycare in a matter of days Lucinda and her colleagues quickly became licensed in childcare and began caring for local children from all the neighboring cities After a few years had passed. Her business grew to become very successful. Eventually Lucinda had more kids than room to fit them all it was time to expand She decided to buy a home in the nearby city of Lakewood. Here, all while continuing to put most of her time and energy into what has grown to become Lucinda‘s one true passion caring for children "imagine that," Lucinda says, “We been here for over 20 years. Their laces are the first thing I get to see when I wake up, and I wouldn‘t have it any other way. God has truly designed a specific path just for me”.
